NY Gov Cuomo To Make Help Available In Multiple Languages

From News 12:

Gov. Cuomo has announced an executive order to bridge language barriers. State agencies will now have interpretation in Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Italian, Korean and Haitian Creole. Should more places accommodate several languages?

To which I responded no.  I don’t think help should be available in 20 languages.  The benefit of the help.  If you have to learn English to get it, sorry, that’s the price.  You can have anything you want as long as you speak enough English to ask for it.

That’s too demanding?  Wow.

Anyway, one comment particularly annoyed me.

They should do whatever they can for these people. No matter what we’re going to get taxed. This is not going to make a dent in anyone’s paycheck here. Some people just love to complain about any and everything. And if any of you think all elderly people have “family members” that can go with them to every single appointment to translate you’re being unrealistic .

Notice the tone?  ”It isn’t going to make a dent in anyone’s paycheck.  Sophia Bonilla Veras has decided, in her infinite wisdom, that you can afford this.

If this isn’t the entitlement mentality in action, I don’t know what is.

For the record, New York faces a $982m budget shortfall this year, and seeing as they’re going to have to hire interpreters, I don’t really see how we won’t be going deeper into the hole, particularly when you account for pensions and other benefits these state employees will be getting.

I never understood this.  If people have to do anything at all to get their freebies, we lose our mind.  Why?  Why is it so taboo to tell people “Hey, look, you can have all this stuff, you just have to speak English!”

And why in the fuck do people like Sophie Bonilla Veras not understand:

1.  That the money has to come from somewhere…

2.  That any more money being spent is further in the hole we go?

It’s enraging how out of touch people are.
