The Way It Is, Like It Or Not...
Whenever fast food joints start something new and have a new promotional item, I check it out. I don’t really do fast food that often any more, but I do like to check out the new stuff to see if it’s worth it.
McDonald’s has been advertising their new CBO sandwiches very heavily. CBO stands for Cheddar, Bacon and Onion. They come in three varieties: Angus, Crispy Chicken, and Grilled Chicken. The questions: 1: Does it look like the promo picture and 2: How does it taste?
For today, we’re going to talk about the Angus. Here’s the official glamour shot:

And what does it actually look like?
I wasn’t expecting miracles but considering how little the food often looks like the picture, this came closer than usual.
Now the taste.
The bun is perfect. It’s hearty and yet soft. The one I had was clearly fresh and hadn’t been sitting around for awhile, and while it didn’t taste all that different, it held up nicely to the heavier patty.
The creamy mustard sauce adds just enough zip to make up for the dryness of the patty (we’ll get to that in a bit) and complements the onions and bacon beautifully.
The onions are allegedly grilled. I’ll agree that they are in fact cooked, but there’s no char whatsoever and no carmelization. They’re a touch darker than raw and they are cooked, but that’s it. They taste good but they aren’t overly interesting in either direction.
The cheese? Tasty. A touch sharp and salty. I think white cheddar was a good way to go and while it only tastes like slightly sharp American cheese, it’s the right idea.
The patty? Dry as a bone and evenly gray inside. This isn’t such a big deal because the cheese is melty and the sauce is liberally applied so the overall consistency isn’t as dry as it would be without the extras.
Overall, though, the entire package is delicious. I wasn’t expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. It all works and works well. I would’ve preferred a more refined and juicy patty, and that was the only part I found lacking, but the tastes were there and I would absolutely buy one again. It’s best Burger I’ve had from a fast food joint (not counting Five Guys, which I don’t consider fast food anyway).
Buy it. Enjoy it.
Just do it soon because it’s a limited time item.
