Calling all cat people:

My cat has been letting his tongue hang out, pawing at the left side of his mouth and stretching it very strangely.  From reading online it would seem something in his mouth is hurting or bothering him.  Looking at it I can’t see any irritation to the gums or a particular tooth looking irritated.  I do not have any money, much less the money to take him to the vet for this.  I am stressed about it and not sure what else I can do besides brush his teeth for him.    

Has anyone had experience with this?
