N.Y. Times editorial board: Obama administration threatening press freedom - POLITICO.com

The only people who don’t think Obama is threatening freedom of the press include Obama, Carney, and the spokespeople they send out to TV shows.

White House’s Ever-Evolving IRS Explanations

Bloomberg reports on Carney’s outright lie and points out that the current story is different from the original story.

Carney said Ruemmler was informed by the Treasury Department’s General Counsel’s office April 24 that the Inspector General for Tax Administration was completing a report that found that IRS employees improperly scrutinized political organizations seeking tax exempt status by searching their applications for words including “Tea Party” and “patriot.”

The previous week, on April 16, Ruemmler had learned more generally that there were a number of Inspector General reports being finalized and an IRS investigation was among those investigations, Carney said.

Carney’s comments today are at odds with what he told reporters last week, when he said the White House counsel “only found out about the review being conducted and coming to conclusion by the inspector general.”

Carney insisted the two statements aren’t in conflict and today he just provided additional information.

Of course he insisted he didn’t change his story.  Doesn’t mean it’s true.

Turns out it’s a fairly swift sojourn from a president pushing to “delegitimize” a news organization to threatening criminal prosecution for journalistic activity by a Fox News reporter, James Rosen, to spying on Associated Press reporters. In between, the Obama administration found time to relentlessly persecute government whistleblowers and publicly harass and condemn a private American citizen for expressing his constitutionally protected speech in the form of an anti-Islam YouTube video.

Where were the media when all this began happening? With a few exceptions, they were acting as quiet enablers.

Breaking - Report: DOJ Leaked Docs to Smear Fast & Furious Whistleblower, Says IG

The hits just keep on coming…

President Obama... A question or two...

  • Question: In Fast and Furious, you smuggled guns to drug dealers with no tracking and no accountability. Those guns were later used in crimes including the murder of Border Agent Brian Terry.
  • Obama: I don't know anything about that. That was the Department of Justice.
  • Question: Your administration gave Solyndra $500m in taxpayer funds even after the EPA, under President Bush, advised against it. This is just one example of the many green business failures your administration funded. Do you have any comment on that?
  • Obama: I don't know anything about that. That was the EPA.
  • Question: Both AP and Fox News reporters were spied on and had phone records and emails seized. Do you think that's constitutional?
  • Obama: I don't know anything about that. That was the Department of Justice.
  • Question: Your administration left four people to die in an embassy as their deaths were watched in a situation room in DC and you didn't send reinforcements to save them.
  • Obama: I don't know anything about that. That was the State Department.
  • Question: President Obama, the IRS played favorites and didn't approve tax exempt applications for conservative groups...
  • Obama: I don't know anything about that. That was the IRS.
  • Question: President Obama, is there an answer to anything that you can give that doesn't involve you shuffling responsibility to some other agency or official in your office?
  • Obama: I don't know anything about that. Ask Jay Carney.

"Unfortunately, you’ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems. Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They’ll warn that tyranny always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave, and creative, and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with which we can’t be trusted."

Barack Obama

Not bad; especially coming from the President who declared May 1st to be “Loyalty Day.”  It’s particularly ironic that his state-worshipping is increasing and increasing as he tries to discredit those who would warn against tyranny.

"Back in February, President Obama warned that the federal spending reductions included in the sequester would deal a “huge blow to middle-class families and our economy as a whole.” A month later, the $85 billion package of budget trims kicked in. But as The Wall Street Journal notes, today’s jobs report suggests that, at least so far, the economy hasn’t exactly taken a beating as a result."

"Five years ago. Barack Obama was running for president for the first time. George W. Bush was president, and Obama was running as the anti-Bush. Everything about his pitch to voters was essentially, “Bush has messed everything up, so I’m going to give you hope and change by doing everything differently.” Five years later, what’s really different?"

"According to the report, although David Petraeus (at the time, CIA director) briefed a House intelligence committee on September 14th, noting five previous attacks in Benghazi since April 2012 and potential links to al Qaeda, as well as information that extremists participated in the attack, this information was then selectively removed."
